Tulum, Q.R. — A weekend bar shooting in Tulum has left three dead and four injured. The shooting happened early Sunday in the seaside town’s Las Mil y Una Noches nightclub.

According to an official statement from the State Attorney General, three men were killed and four other people were injured. The shooting happened around 4:00 a.m. Sunday morning when two men are reported to have entered the nightclub and opened fire.

Two men were found dead at the scene. A third died in a Playa del Carmen hospital. Three of the injured are men. One is a woman. All range in ages between 26 and 35.

The area was cordoned off while evidence was collected. At least nine 9 millimeter caliber shell casings were found at the scene.

In an FGE statement, the Fiscalía General del Estado said “the FGE reports that an investigation has been initiated for facts possibly constituting the crime of qualified homicide to the detriment of three men and attempted homicide of another four people who were injured by firearm projectiles.

“The first investigations reveal that this event could be a matter of drug dealing, so the safety of the population, as well as its visitors, was not at risk at any time.

“This autonomous body, like the security corporations that are in the municipality, work in a coordinated manner to clarify these events and find the person or persons responsible for this unfortunate event.”
