Texas fugitive from U.S. authorities captured living illegally in Tulum

Tulum, Q.R. — An American man considered a fugitive from U.S. law enforcement has been captured in Tulum. Omar “N” was taken into legal custody by State Investigative Police officers Wednesday while walking along a town avenue.

His capture was made in coordination with the Unit for Transnational Crimes.

Omar “N” was captured in Tulum June 24, 2026.

According to authorities, Omar “N” was wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant in Texas for sexual abuse against a minor.

“Omar “N”, a U.S. citizen, was arrested for the alleged sexual assault of a minor, pursuant to an outstanding arrest warrant issued by authorities in the state of Texas, United States of America,” the SSC (Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana) reported.

According to local police, his capture was achieved thanks to the investigation, surveillance and exchange of sensitive information that allowed the suspect to be located when he was walking on Parque Tulum Avenue.

Police were able to locate and capture him due to “investigative and surveillance work based on sensitive information,” they said.

“The arrest took place on Avenue Parque Tulum where agents located the individual wanted by U.S. authorities. When approached for official identification, he displayed a nervous, hesitant, and evasive demeanor.

“It was subsequently confirmed that he had an outstanding arrest warrant in Texas for the sexual assault of a minor,” said the SSC.

Police said that international coordination with U.S. authorities also established that Omar “N” is also facing charges related to the possession of controlled substances.

According to the SSC, Omar “N” was living in Tulum illegally and has since been handed over to the the INM (National Institute of Migration) for his eventual return to the U.S.

He has since been handed over to INM for extradition back to the U.S. June 24, 2026.

“This action is part of the inter-institutional cooperation efforts promoted by the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, headed by Omar García Harfuch, through collaborative mechanisms with national and international authorities for the location of individuals wanted by foreign justice systems,” they said.
