Tulum, Q.R. — Three people were killed Monday night outside a home in Tulum. Local authorities have reported the start of an investigation into the deadly attack that also sent one person to hospital.
The shooting happened around 8:00 p.m. outside a home on Luna Street in Colonia Maya, south of the city center. The three deceased are reported to be all males between the ages of 30 and 35.
According to early information, the four victims were approached by several men who were seen talking with them on the street before the shooting began. Three of the shot men were killed at the scene. A fourth person, reported to be a woman, was rushed to a Playa del Carmen hospital under police guard.
Those responsible for the deadly shooting were successful in escaping before police arrived. More than a dozen shell casings were collected from the scene.
Authorities have not speculated on a possible motive for the targeted attack, however, local media have reported a gang dispute over drug territory.
In a statement, the State Attorney General said “The FGE of Quintana Roo reports that it began an investigation derived from a criminal report in the municipality of Tulum.
“Specialized personnel from this autonomous organization are analyzing the evidence collected in order to be able to find the whereabouts of the person or persons responsible.
“From the events, which occurred outside a home in the Maya neighborhood, three people lost their lives and one more was injured by a firearm projectile, for which she was transferred to a hospital in the municipality of Solidaridad for medical attention.
“The Prosecutor’s Office, together with the Coordination Group for the Construction of Peace and Security of Quintana Roo, maintain surveillance in this municipality in order to guarantee the tranquility of the population and its visitors.”
