Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A suspect in the Sunday morning shooting of two Playa del Carmen men is in police custody. Police say Jesús Abimael “N” has been arrested for aggravated homicide and attempted homicide.
“The events for which the suspect is being investigated occurred on April 12 of this year in the irregular In House colony of Playa del Carmen,” police said.

After an attack with firearms, one person lost his life as a result of three gunshot wounds to the head and hand, while another was injured after receiving two gunshot wounds to the chest and knee, and is reported to be in serious condition in a hospital in this city.
At the scene, experts located several spent casings of .223 and 9 mm calibers, the latter considered to be for the exclusive use of the Army, Navy and Air Force.
As a result of these events, the Attorney General’s Office and the Municipal Police implemented a search and location operation, through which they managed to arrest the accused on Constituyentes Avenue in this municipality.
At the time of his arrest, this person was found to be in possession of a 9mm caliber firearm, with a magazine loaded with live cartridges.
Also, during the operation carried out in the In House neighborhood, a Vento motorcycle without license plates, with a theft report from September 2025, was seized along with three long firearms, as well as three magazines and cartridges of different calibers.
According to initial investigations, three individuals, aboard two motorcycles, entered the residence where the victims were located. All three fled after the shooting. Police said “some of them hide in the undergrowth.”

Investigations indicate that the likely perpetrators are members of a violent criminal group dedicated to the sale and distribution of drugs in Playa del Carmen. It has not not ruled out that the motive for the attack is related to the dispute for control of drug dealing between criminal groups operating in the area.
