Stopped van said cause of four vehicle crash outside Tulum

Tulum, Q.R. — A four vehicle highway crash outside Tulum Wednesday left three with injuries. A long line of traffic also formed in the far right lane as passing motorists crept by the crashed cars for a look before moving on.

Police and ambulances responded to the calls of the crash along the federal 307 highway Wednesday afternoon. The four-vehicle collision was reportedly caused by a stopped van under the overpass.

Preliminary reports say the driver of the van was stopped under the overpass when he was hit from behind by an oncoming car. Two other cars also became involved in the crash, all four of which, suffered extensive damage.

The driver of the van is reported to have stopped to let someone off. Assistance from Tulum firemen was requested after one woman was found trapped inside one of the involved vehicles. A total of three people were transferred to hospital with undisclosed injuries.
