Othón P. Blanco, Q.R. — A group of residents from the southern district of Carlos A. Madrazo blocked Maya Train workers from accessing the federal 186 highway. Townspeople said they were protesting the damage caused to their roads by the Maya Train workers and the lack of repairs by the municipality.
The 186 highway was blocked at 9:30 a.m. with protesters claiming excessive damage to their town’s roads to the point small cars cannot pass. With a large banner in hand, demonstrators claimed a lack of attention by city hall.
At least one heavy unit passes through their town every hour, they said, as they stood firm in their roadblock. Frustrated townsmen also claimed the problem with the heavy units destroying their roads has been ongoing for nearly two years
The group were demanding the intervention of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, noting they also wanted improved lighting, garbage collection and citizen security.
