Tulum, Q.R. — Emergency services in Tulum were made aware of a single palapa fire on a private property along the highway Wednesday evening. Initially, Civil Protection was the responding team with one unit and four men.
The call was received shortly after 6:00 p.m. regarding a property at Kilometer 9 of the Tulum – Coba highway. Civil Protection arrived at the scene to find multiple palapas and several vehicles on fire.
According to a report by Civil Protection, when they arrived they found six palapa-topped buildings and three vehicles burning. In turn, three firetrucks were requested at the scene to fight the large and fast moving flames.
In their report, Protección Civil de Tulum explained “at 18:06 p.m. an emergency call was received reporting a palapa fire on a property located at km 9 Tulum – Coba highway. We proceeded in a unit with 4 elements.
“When arriving at the place, it was verified that there is an affectation of 6 palapas, a compact vehicle, a van and a 20-ton truck, for which the support of the Fire Department was requested. Three units arrived to put out and liquidate the fire, using 45,000 liters of water, only resulting in material losses.”
