Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Two men lost their lives on Monday in a single vehicle rollover on the El Tintal highway. The driver was heading to Playa del Carmen when he is reported to have fallen asleep at the wheel.
The car left the road and rolled over, landing on its roof off the highway. Motorists who watched as the car spun out of control and rolled into the ditch called 9-1-1 to report the accident.
Both men were from out of state, but living in Playa del Carmen. One was from Campeche, while the other is reported to have been from the state of Yucatan. PDC firemen were requested to assist in the removal of the front seat passenger who was found still alive.
Emergency personnel reported one man, the driver, was found dead at the scene. The second, his passenger, died while being treated in hospital.
