Seed and fertilizer program benefits over 1,000 Tulum farmers

Tulum, Q.R. — More than a thousand producers from the Mayan Zone of Tulum were beneficiaries of the Fertilizantes del Bienestar program. Bags of fertilizer and corn seed were distributed between countryside farmers by the municipal government of Tulum.

Municipal Trustee, María Teresa Arana Sánchez, representing Mayor Castañón, supervised the deliveries to producers. More than 14 tons was distributed between residents of Chanchen, Chanchen Palmar, Hondzonot, Sahcab Mucuy, San Juan and other towns in the Mayan Zone.

The Director of Economy for Tulum, Bady Gómez Soberano, said the program will benefit more than 1,000 farmers.

“This is a Segalmex program coordinated with Sedarpe and the City Council. It supports more than a thousand Tulum producers and is carried out based on a schedule.

“Around 200 producers per day are being supported with help provided by Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo,” he explained. The local farmers are being assisted with poultry manure fertilizer and corn seeds.

Earlier this week, a similar program was carried out in the municipality of José María Morelos with 22 tons of corn seed being delivered to local farmers as part of a self-sufficient program.
