Tulum, Q.R. — After several hours of being blocked, police were successful in clearing the section of Tulum-Playa del Carmen highway that was shut by land invaders. Police were sent to the area around noon Thursday after dozens of people took to the highway in protest of being evicted.
Tension increased as riot police were met with stones and other objects by the angry land invaders. Elements of the army and navy were also called in to help tend to the situation. Those blocking the highway were protesting their eviction after illegally settling on private Tulum land.
