Residents protest days with power and no response from CFE

Othón P. Blanco, Q.R. — On Sunday, a section of the Chetumal-Escarcega highway was blocked by residents of rural communities due to power cuts. The angry group say CFE has left them without electricity for more than three days.

The group said they would not leave the road until power was restored. On Sunday afternoon, they demanded the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) regularize their service.

According to the group, the communities of Morocoy, San Pedro Peralta, and “El Gallito” lost power since Thursday. Despite notifying the Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE), they say no one has responded.

A report was made to the CFE Thursday night and repeated in subsequent days, but without a response. On Sunday, a group took to the highway. Long lines of traffic formed in both directions.

Residents say the will not leave until their power is restored since they do not have believe the good-faith agreements of the CFE.
