Rains cause tree to topple near Fifth Avenue

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A large established tree toppled over near Playa del Carmen’s popular Fifth Avenue creating a stir for shoppers and city workers who tended to its removal.

The tree, which was approximately four meters in height, gave way and fell over on its own. The incident occurred on 4th Street, between fifth and first in front of El Caimán restaurant. There were no injuries reported, only material damage when part of the restaurant’s floor was lifted due to the tree’s base uprooting.

The cause of the topple is being blamed on the bout of recent rains that are said to have loosened the ground, making the tree unstable.
