Public Tulum road shooting leaves one dead and two serious

Tulum, Q.R. — One man was killed in a targeted attack against him and two others Tuesday in Tulum. The shooting happened in the Ya’ax neighborhood shortly after 7:00 p.m. outside a home on Jazmín Street.

According to preliminary information, the attack took place on the public dirt road that runs toward the gated homes. All three men, who were gathered talking on the road, were shot. One was killed and pronounced on scene by paramedics from the General Hospital of Tulum. The other two were taken to the General Hospital in serious condition.

One of the two men was shot at least three times, once in the arm, abdomen and face. Injuries to the third person are unknown, however, due to the extent of their injuries, both men have since been transferred to a Playa del Carmen hospital.

While the residential reports of shot persons quickly had police on scene, it is unclear how many gunmen there were or how they arrived since they escaped the scene before authorities arrived.

Municipal and state police sectioned off the area with assistance of National Guard while a search operation for the gunmen was deployed. The Secretaría de Seguridad Pública y Protección Ciudadana of Tulum has not released any information to clarify events or acknowledge the town’s latest shooting.
