Profepa closes Tulum construction for damages, lack of permits

Tulum, Q.R. — The Federal Office of Environmental Protection (Profepa) reports the closure of a Tulum hotel found with multiple violations.

La Procuraduría Federal de Protección Ambiental (Profepa) says Casa Mayal in the municipality of Tulum has been shut down after officers reported discovering environmental damage as well as a lack of the necessary permits needed for construction.

Profepa says staff made a visit to the establishment, located along the road to Boca Paila, to verify conditions after having detected violations of the Environmental Protection Law.

Once on site, inspectors found environmental damage and the hotel performing construction work without the required permits. The developers of Casa Mayal must appear and respond to sanctions imposed derived from the breaches detected by the Profepa inspectors.
