Tulum, Q.R. — Several blocks in central Tulum were left without electricity due an exploding underground box. At least five blocks were without power Friday due to a CFE power explosion.

An underground utility box belonging to the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) interrupted power in at least five blocks Friday morning. Personnel from the CFE located the faulty box a few meters from City Hall.
People in nearby businesses reported hearing a loud bang that was later determined to be the electrical explosion. Those affected reported an immediate loss to their electricity following the power pop.
CFE crews arrived to begin inspecting their underground electrical network to identify the cause of the failure. CFE technical personnel took more than five hours to make the necessary repairs and restore power.
While repairs were underway, the area was cordoned off by CFE personnel to restrict street access. Service was restored Friday afternoon.
