Pocna Tulum Hotel and Beach Club closed after government search operation

Tulum, Q.R. — A search warrant allowed officials in the municipality of Tulum to shut down illegal construction. On Monday, the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) reported on the search of a property in the Tulum National Park.

On Sunday, the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (PROFEPA), with the support of the National Guard (GN), carried out an operation at Pocna Beach Club, located in the Tulum National Park for alleged crimes of damage to biodiversity and the environment.

In their press release, they said agents from the Federal Public Ministry (MPF), the Federal Ministerial Police (PFM), the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC), official experts in the areas of architecture, biodiversity, photography and criminalistics of field, as well as elements of the State Police of Quintana Roo, with the accompaniment of the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas, also participated in the operation.

During the operation, damage was found on the palmas de Chi coastal dune, which is Protected under NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2010 Standard. Reason for which said property was insured.

The National Guard will be in charge of maintaining surveillance within and in the vicinity of this Protected Natural Area to prevent further damage to the environment and guarantee biodiversity that make up the natural wealth of the country.
