Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Material damage was reported in a Playa del Carmen fire Sunday night that forced the evacuation of a restaurant. Emergency personnel were at La Vaca Gaucha on Fifth Avenue in response to a kitchen fire.
Firemen arrived around 7:30 p.m. after a duct in the grill caught fire.
Civil Protection helped with the evacuation of the restaurant’s customers, who stood outside near 24th Street while firemen worked to extinguish the flames.

An ambulance arrived, but was not required. Firemen were at the scene for around 40 minutes to extinguish the fire.
According to initial reports, the fire was caused by a buildup of grease in the restaurant’s grease trap, which resulted in the emission of a large amount of smoke and subsequently a fire in the kitchen area.
Firemen did not report any injuries during the incident, only material damage in the restaurant’s kitchen.
