Playa del Carmen arch license plate reader identifies stolen car and triggers arrest

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A Cancun driver picked out of traffic passing through the Playa del Carmen arch has been arrested. The 22 year old driver was taken into custody by police Monday after cameras identified his vehicle as stolen.

The vehicle he was driving was identified as having a current theft report from the state of Michoacán. After being tagged by the arch’s security system, police caught up with the driver as he entered the municipality.

He was stopped by authorities in the Xcalacoco area of north Playa del Carmen and removed from the vehicle. The car he was driving was impounded.

Arrested was 22 year old Erik “N” from Cancun. He was taken into custody for being in possession of stolen property.
