Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Police were at the scene of a fatal pedestrian accident Thursday afternoon in west Playa del Carmen. A man jaywalking across 115th Avenue was hit by a company cargo truck and killed.
The accident happened several meters from a marked crosswalk where the man darted across the avenue toward the other side.
Witnesses called police who arrived to find the pedestrian had been hit by a set of wheels and throw under the truck. Paramedics were called in to confirm the death.
Officers from the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) sectioned off the area for investigative police.
According to early information, the driver did not see the man as tried to run across the avenue. Witnesses who saw the truck hit the pedestrian yelled for the driver to stop.
The male driver was taken in for questioning and his vehicle towed from the Thursday afternoon scene.
