Tulum, Q.R. — A man was hit by a car and killed Tuesday night crossing the federal highway. The driver of the involved car struck the pedestrian as he tried to cross near Laguna Ka’an Lu’um.

The male pedestrian was hit by the car on the front passenger’s side, throwing him to the ground. The accident happened shortly before midnight. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Tulum paramedics. He has only been identified as an adult male.
The driver and passenger of the private Chiapas-plated vehicle were heading to Tulum after leaving Bacalar at the time of the accident.

According to their statements, the man appeared suddenly on the highway. The driver was unable to maneuver to prevent from hitting him. Police were on scene directing traffic until the removal of the body.
