Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A Playa del Carmen police officer has been suspended on allegations of domestic violence. The officer, who has not been named, is an active member of the municipality’s SSC.
According to a public statement by the city, the officer’s wife made an emergency 9-1-1 call Tuesday. Following the call, her husband, a municipal officer, was arrested from their home in Cristo Rey.
Authorities said the woman was not found with any visible injuries at the time of their response, and was attended to by personnel from the Specialized Group for Attention to Family and Gender Violence.
“The Playa del Carmen government reports that an officer of this department, currently suspended from duty, was arrested after being accused of domestic violence by his partner,” the SSC of Playa del Carmen said in a statement.

“The incident was reported to the 911 emergency number from a residence in the Cristo Rey neighborhood. Personnel from the Specialized Group for Attention to Family and Gender Violence (GEAVIG) and the Preventive Police responded immediately and provided the necessary support.
“The victim was evaluated at the scene and found to be physically unharmed and without visible injuries.
“The Secretariat of Citizen Security reiterates that it will not tolerate any conduct that violates the law, especially when it involves acts that threaten the safety of women and families.
“Any member of the department who engages in illegal acts will face the corresponding legal consequences. The Playa del Carmen government maintains its commitment to act with firmness, transparency and strict respect for human rights.”
