Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Playa del Carmen firemen found a dead man inside a burned out room Tuesday after putting out a building fire. His death happened in a tenement building on 30th Avenue and CTM Avenue.
Other people in the area reported seeing thick smoke at the door of the apartment Tuesday afternoon. Firemen arrived in response to the 2:30 p.m. report to find the room fully engulfed.
Emergency services were at the scene of the fire in the Zazil Ha neighborhood in central Playa del Carmen for more than an hour.
After extinguishing the fire, firefighters were able to enter the room where they found a deceased man.
Preliminary reports indicate that the fire started near the front door, blocking any escape attempts. PDC authorities have not provided information on a cause for the fire or the identity of the deceased.
