Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A vacation apartment building in central Playa del Carmen was evacuated after the report of a gas leak. Municipal firemen were called to an address along First Street South in response to a report of the smell of gas.

Authorities responding to the Wednesday afternoon report arrived to confirm an LP leak. Playa del Carmen firemen were quick to evacuate the building’s guests and control the seeping gas.
They confirmed finding an LP gas leak outside the upper apartment of a vacation unit in the Aviación neighborhood.
The building was emptied while firemen worked to prevent a possible explosion in the middle of a residential area.
The leak was controlled without any injuries reported. Local authorities did not comment on incident or say what caused the line leak.
