PDC bicyclist thrown under dump truck reported critical

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A PDC cyclist suffered serious leg injuries Wednesday after being run over by a dump truck. The bicycle and truck meet at an intersection on the Arco Vial where the rider was thrown under the industrial vehicle.

Witnesses watched in horror as the man was left laying under a set of front tires next to his crumpled bike. He was pinned under the truck by a set of tires that stopped across his legs.

Emergency services were made aware of the 1:00 p.m. accident by area residents of the Hunab Ku subdivision who ran to the street after hearing the commotion.

Municipal police located the Wednesday afternoon scene of the accident at 28 de Julio Avenue and 115th Avenue. Eye witnesses said the bicyclist had started to cross the avenue on a green light when the dump truck made a left turn.

The truck hit the man on the bike, leaving him pinned under the front wheels. Responding police called the Playa del Carmen fire department for assistance in removing the man from under the truck.

He was rushed to hospital in serious condition.

Police proceeded to arrest the driver of the dump truck, which was eventually towed from the scene to a city impound lot while authorities investigate who was responsible for the accident.
