Paramedics confirm death of ‘unconscious’ man at Tulum cenote

Tulum, Q.R. — Paramedics confirmed the death of a man likely by drowning from a Tulum cenote Monday. The man, reported to be around 55, was pronounced dead at the scene after being pulled from the water by swimmers.

Police and other emergency services arrived after receiving a report of a drowning victim inside the Aldea Zama cenote. The man was initally reported as being unconscious, however, his death was confirmed by responding paramedics.

State and municipal police, along with personnel from the State Attorney General’s Office, were part of the responders. According to the emergency call, the man was taken to nearby rocks by cenote swimmers after being found unconscious in the water.

An autopsy will confirm the official cause of death. The man’s name has not been released.
