Othón P. Blanco, Q.R. — Two men stopped for reckless driving remain jailed on smuggling charges. Julián “N” and René “N” were stopped by police near a military post on an Othón P. Blanco highway Friday after their white cargo truck was seen “traveling at excessive speed and in a reckless manner.”

Authorities stopped the truck near the Maya Train station on the Chetumal-Escárcega federal highway in the town of Nicolás Bravo. Due to the degree of reckless driving, authorities were given instructions to inspect the vehicle’s cargo.
Their inspection revealed boxes of unverifiable merchandise. The men were unable to provide the legal documentation for the shipment or the payment for all but three items. Authorities arrested both men on smuggling offenses.
“Upon verifying the cargo of the 2012 International truck it was found that it was carrying several white boxes with an illustration of a fan and the legend “12 Air Circulator,” green sacks, white boxes with the legend “air circulator for home,” and sandals in one of the sacks,” the SSC reported.

Last year, the Government of Mexico began a crackdown after more than 70,000 Mexican jobs were lost in the textile industry in 18 months due to smuggling and piracy.
