Overturned water truck interrupts weekend traffic in north Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Weekend traffic was interrupted Friday along Playa del Carmen Boulevard due to an overturned truck. The single vehicle mishap occurred around 3:00 p.m. when the driver was heading south.

According to initial reports, the vehicle experienced a steering system malfunction, causing the driver to lose control. The tires of the water truck made contact with the concrete median, causing it to fall over. Due to its weight, the truck rolled onto its roof.

Motorists traveling through the Mayakoba area in north Playa del Carmen reported the accident to emergency 911. In response, Municipal Transit and Civil Protection personnel were sent.

Personnel temporarily shut a section of the road while an industrial tow truck up-righted the water truck and removed it from the public boulevard. Due to complications, the removal of the vehicle took nearly an hour. Personnel also spent time clearing away glass from the popped windshield.

The driver was found unharmed from the incident. Traffic was restored in the area by late afternoon.
