Tulum, Q.R. — A large section of Tulum was left without electricity Thursday after an oversized semi took out power lines. The incident happened on Kukulcán Avenue and Yondzonot Street when the large unit hooked overhead lines.
As he drove along the avenue, the overhead lines were ripped down, entangling the semi and felling a concrete CFE pole that landed on a passing dump truck.
Electric lines were spread across the avenue for nearly a block, leaving large sections of the city without electricity. Personnel from the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) were brought in to sort out the mess and reestablish power.
The area was heavily congested Thursday with the two damaged industrial vehicles, municipal police trucks and CFE units arriving to make the repairs. There was no word on charges against the driver.
