Tulum, Q.R. — One woman has been declared deceased while five have been counted as wounded in a highway accident that involved a private car and a public transport combi.
The deadly accident took place along the Playa del Carmen-Tulum stretch of the coastal area of Riviera Maya Sunday morning after a public combi and private car collided. Emergency personnel were notified of the accident around 8:24 a.m.
When police and medical personnel arrived, they found the driver of the combi trapped behind the steering wheel. They also found a back seat passenger of the car, who had been thrown to the front, trapped inside. Emergency services from both Playa del Carmen and Tulum rushed to the site where they were able to free the combi driver and car passenger from the twisted metal with help from Tulum firemen who used the jaws of life.
The wounded from both vehicles were taken to area hospitals, while personnel from the Forensic Medical Services arrived to confirm the death of one woman.
Speed has been labeled a factor in the accident. The name of the deceased has not been released.
