Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A taxi was left totaled Tuesday in a three vehicle crash in north Playa del Carmen. The three vehicles collided near a retorno on the federal highway at Avenue Xcalacoco.
The driver of a private car was reportedly attempting a highway U-turn when she shifted lanes and collided with a van.
That van was forced out of its lane and into oncoming traffic where it hit a Playa del Carmen taxi on the opposite side of the highway.
The van and taxi collided, leaving the cab a write off. The driver of the private car had changed lanes to use the U-turn (retorno) when the accident happened.
Emergency services were at the scene around 11:00 a.m. to deal with the three vehicle crash and mann backed up highway traffic. Municipal transit officers arrived and ordered the vehicles towed to the impound.
Despite the severity of the crash, no injuries were reported. The car that is alleged to have caused the accident was mildly damaged on the front driver’s side over the wheel well.
