Cancun, Q.R. — An internal investigation has begun against a Cancun police officer involved in a Saturday afternoon crash. Internal Affairs Directorate of the Cancun Police started the investigation against an officer who is accused of driving a patrol unit while intoxicated.
On Saturday, the on-duty officer was involved in a crash with a motorcycle in the Paseos Kabah subdivision in SM 221 that left both motorcycle driver and passenger injured. At the scene, witnesses reported seeing beer cans inside the patrol unit, accusing the driving officer of being intoxicated.
On Sunday, the Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security and Transit reported that due to the events that occurred SM 221 on Saturday afternoon, the Internal Affairs Directorate are investigating the officer’s actions after a breathalyzer confirmed that the officer was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
That Cancun police officer has since been released of his duties.
