Officers arrest man for attempted murder after chainsaw attack

Othón P. Blanco, Q.R. — Municipal police in Othón P. Blanco have arrested a man for attempted murder with a chainsaw. Alberto “N” was taken into custody after he tried to attack police.

Municipal officers were called to a home in the community of Huay-Pix south of the city of Chetumal Saturday by a neighbor’s 9-1-1 report of an aggressive man. Once at the home they found a woman padlocked inside the house. The locked up woman claimed to be the man’s mother.

While talking with her, the man armed himself with a chainsaw. He started it and headed toward the officers who were behind a wood and wire fence. In an attempt to attack, he lowered the chainsaw onto the wood fence, eventually hitting a piece of wire which broke the chainsaw.

The man began to run but tripped and fell, allowing police a capture and arrest. The Secretary of Citizen Security (SSC) reported on the incident.

“The arrest of Alberto “N”, presumed involved in the crime of attempted murder in the town of Huay-Pix, was carried out. Police observed that a woman, who identified herself as the man’s mother, was locked in a house with a padlock. While exchanging information with her, the aggressor already had a chainsaw in his hands and began to attack the police, endangering their lives.

“The man continued with the attacks and in one of the attempts, he hit the wire of one of the pieces of wood and that is when the chain of the chainsaw broke. The subject began to run, however, he tripped and fell, hitting his head, a situation that the elements took advantage of to proceed with the arrest.

“The green chainsaw with a gray blade with the legend “Kingro” was seized from him and he was placed at the disposal of the State Attorney General’s Office,” the Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana said in a statement.
