Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Citizens held a man for police after chasing him through a Playa del Carmen neighborhood. The chase happened Friday afternoon when a woman began yelling for help after being mugged in broad daylight while walking a residential street.
The man she said mugged her had threatened her with a “sharp weapon” before running off. Her yells for help were heard by area residents who set out to capture the alleged mugger.
A group of men chased the youth through the streets of the Ejidal neighborhood after assaulting a woman on the Arco Vial Poniente.
According to initial reports, the youth intercepted the woman as she was walking through the area. He is alleged to have threatening her with a sharp weapon before taking off with her personal belongings.
When he ran, she yelled for help. Neighbors who heard her came out of their homes and joined the chase. The youth was captured after running inside a building under construction.
Police were called. They took the man into custody. He was found in possession of a box cutter at the time of his arrest.
