Municipal officers suspended for removing boy from beach

Tulum, Q.R. — Tulum City Council says an investigation has been launched into the actions of security personnel involving a minor. The young boy was stopped by two Tulum police officers Saturday on a beach for selling products.

According to Tulum authorities, the boy had already been through the Desarrollo Integral de la Familia or DIF (Comprehensive Family Development) system. During the Saturday encounter, the child appears visibly frightened while officers proceed to remove him from the beach.

In a statement, municipal authorities said on instructions of Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo, those involved were suspended from their duties as a precautionary measure while the facts are clarified.

“Here, no one will be allowed to use the uniform to abuse or act arrogantly. Being an authority figure is a responsibility, not a privilege,” the statement reads.
