Military subdues men in what turned out to be not a Cancun kidnapping

Cancun, Q.R. — Military personnel responding to reports of a broad daylight kidnapping retreated Tuesday. Authorities responded to several 9-1-1 reports of the attempted kidnapping in SM 65 yesterday evening.

Military and city police quickly arrived in an attempt to thwart the 6:00 p.m. public abduction. When they arrived at the scene on José López Portillo Avenue, they found three men struggling with a fourth.

The three men quickly explained that they were employees of a rehabilitation centre and that the fourth man was resisting being taken back to the centre.

The men were trying to get him into their white Nissan Versa when authorities arrived and subdued the three men. The fourth man, who was with this mother, confirmed they were trying to get him to reenter a drug rehabilitation center.

The unnamed man had been released from the rehabilitation centre a few weeks beforehand but relapsed. His mother requested assistance from the centre to have her son readmitted.
