Merida judge rules definitive suspension on Cancun to Tulum Maya Train section 5

Merida, Yucatan — A Yucatan judge has granted a definitive suspension against Section 5 of the Maya Train. On Tuesday, the District Judge of the First Court of Yucatan again granted the definitive suspension of the section that runs from Cancun to Tulum.

The court determined that “the removal or destruction of the flora of the land in question should not be done in the areas that are outside the surface in which the change of land use in forest lands was authorized through the official letter SPARN /DGGFSOE/418/1306/2022 of December 15, 2022, signed by the Director of Forest Exploitation, in charge of the office of the General Directorate of Forest Management, Soils and Ecological Planning”.

According to information provided, “the project has not carried out due process, studies, permits and authorizations to advance and comply with the law.”

There has not been a public statement made from any federal or state authority regarding this latest ruling.
