Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo announces new Blindaje Tulum security strategy

Tulum, Q.R. — Tulum Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo led the Monday ceremony of the comprehensive “Blindaje Tulum” security strategy. The new strategy, he says, is for the construction of peace.

At the presentation, he explained that the comprehensive program aims to increase confidence in the police to make it a national reference through three stages which include 15 new patrols, 70 new agents and 600 video surveillance cameras.

In addition, there is a strategic model with crime prevention policies, security by quadrants and coordination with the three levels of Government.

“Today I come to send clear a message that does not admit doubts or hesitations: Tulum is not alone and we will not allow crime to continue threatening our peace.”

In his message, the Mayor said that Tulum has a firm, determined and prepared government to face the greatest challenge: recovering peace and tranquility.

“For years, insecurity has affected the lives of our families. It has threatened our peace and has put at risk what we love most. Today, I tell you with total firmness that this is going to change.

“As mayor I am committed to protecting Tulum. We are going to defend our municipality, our streets, our neighborhoods and, above all, our people,” he said.

He acknowledged that poverty, lack of opportunities and abandonment are factors that push many to enter the path of crime, but he reiterated that now begins a new stage.

70 new agents have been added to the Tulum police force. Ayuntamiento De Tulum October 21, 2024.

“Here in Tulum, peace is non-negotiable. We have the support of the first female Governor Mara Lezama, and the first female President of Mexico Claudia Sheinbaum who have made it very clear that the peace and tranquility of our people are absolute priority. They are the cornerstones of building peace in our country, in our state, and of course, here in our municipality,” he emphasized.

“We are going to protect Tulum not only with more police or more technology, but with unprecedented coordination between all the security forces: the National Guard, the Army, the Navy, the State Police, the Prosecutor’s Office, and of course, our Municipal Police.

“Government, society, businessmen, civil associations, citizens: all of us together to confront those who try to sow fear and violence,” he said.

He called on the neighbors to join the fight, since each one will play an important role as vigilant, attentive and supportive people, being an impenetrable front against crime.

“We have the commitment, the capacity and the will to change things. Tulum is a paradise, and we deserve to live in peace. Tulum is strong. Tulum is brave. And with the strength of all of us, we will move forward.

“Security is not a dream, it is a reality that we are going to build together. Today I ask you to trust us, to trust this team that is willing to give everything for the security of our municipality,” he said.

David Ortiz Mena, President of the Tulum Hotel Association, recognized the leadership and support of Mayor Diego Castañón, especially for his vision and commitment to achieving a safe environment.
