Material damage reported after second story fire in Tulum hotel

Tulum, Q.R. — Firemen were at the scene of a Tulum hotel Tuesday after staff requested assistance. Employees from the Cielito Hotel called the fire department after locating a fire in a storage area on the second floor.

Tulum firemen were at the scene Tuesday afternoon and able to put out the fire without extensive damage. The fire was found contained to a room used for storage. Flames were extinguished before the fire spread.

Aside from water, damage was kept to a minimum. There were no injuries reported.

In a brief statement Wednesday, the Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana (SSC) reported “elements of the SSC arrived at the Cielito Hotel to provide support due to the report of a fire in the storage on the second floor Tuesday in Tulum.

“It is reported that there were no injuries and the incident was controlled by firefighters.”

The SSC did not provide a cause for the fire.
