Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The main suspect in the murder of a Veracruz woman found dead in Playa del Carmen has been found. The Quintana Roo State Attorney General (FGE) reported Tuesday that José de Jesús “N” has been captured.
After nearly a year on the run, Investigative Police officers executed an arrest warrant against José de Jesús “N” Tuesday. The FGE said he is the “suspected mastermind behind the femicide of Mariel García.”
Police said Tuesday that José de Jesús “N” is considered the alleged mastermind behind the murder of Mariel García who disappeared on January 28, 2024. Her remains were located on March 6 of last year in the irregular settlement of Los Sauces in Playa del Carmen.
José de Jesús “N” was arrested “for his probable participation in acts possibly constituting the crime of aggravated homicide.”
Based on the initial investigative actions, three probable participants were identified. Jonathan “N” and Luis Esteban “N”, who have already been arrested and José de Jesús “N”, being the third and the alleged intellectual author, police said.

José de Jesús “N” was captured in the city of Chetumal and returned to Playa del Carmen to face charges. He is currently in the Municipal Detention Center of Playa del Carmen.
