Cancun, Q.R. — A Cancun man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for stealing nearly100,000 pesos (approximately $5,500 USD). He was found guilty of robbing a construction site business of the cash during a mechanical breakdown.
In an oral trial hearing Thursday, a Cancun judge sentenced Martín Cruz Sánchez, to 12 years for robbery.

“The events for which he was sentenced occurred on April 2, 2022, when the victim was helping his business partner with a vehicle that had mechanical problems.
“The victim was carrying a yellow envelope in his pants pocket containing 99,529.05 pesos, intended for the payroll of employees at a construction site,” police reported.
“Once the vehicle repair was complete and as they were closing the hood on Pecarí Street, both men saw the now-convicted man approach and put on a black face mask.
“Immediately afterward, the man ordered the victim and his companion to remain still and pulled a firearm from his belongings. He then told the victim to lie on the ground and removed the yellow envelope, belonging to a construction company, from his pants pocket.”
Martín Cruz Sánchez was sentenced to 12 years in prison and a fine of 8,659.80 pesos.
