Man left critical from assault inside Tulum motel escapes in attacker’s car

Tulum, Q.R. — A man was rushed to hospital Wednesday after being attacked inside a Tulum motel room. Police stopped the vehicle on the federal highway Wednesday morning after the assaulted man drove through the motel’s main gate during his getaway.

The assault was the result of a two-on-one fight that started inside a Mandala Motel room. The three men were inside the room when two of them reportedly attacked the third. The reason for the attack is unknown.

In an attempt to escape, the critically injured victim was able to access one of his attacker’s vehicles. He drove the SUV through the motel property, mowing down a gate in the process. The SUV was eventually located and stopped by police on a section of federal highway in the neighboring municipality of Felipe Carrillo Puerto.

Paramedics were called to provide medical attention to the man. He was transported to the Felipe Carrillo Puerto General Hospital in critical condition. Police began their investigation at the motel where they located the mowed-down gate and bloody motel room where the fight started.

The vehicle the victim was driving was also found covered in blood inside and out. State Police along with National Guard, Navy and the FGE began a search for a tossed weapon believed used in the attack. Authorities have not said what that weapon was.

Police have not announced the arrest of any suspects, nor have they made any public comments on a possible motive. The victim of the assault has not been named.
