Local Tulum man dies by drowning after unsuccessful CPR attempts

Tulum, Q.R. — An older man was pronounced dead on a Tulum beach after an apparent drowning. The unnamed man, reported to be around 60, died after unsuccessful attempts at resuscitation.

The afternoon drowning happened in waters off Playa Eufemia at kilometer 6.5 of the Tulum-Boca Paila highway. Others on the beach alerted emergency 9-1-1 who sent an ambulance. Paramedics also attempted CPR, however, he was pronounced dead.

Due to the death, police were notified. Elements of Public Security and Civil Protection arrived to cordon off the area for the removal of the body.

According to others on the beach, the older man appeared to be alone. He is reported to have been a local resident.
