Tulum, Q.R. — A legal land battle in central Tulum has resulted in the seizure of two properties. On Wednesday, authorities arrived at kilometer 4.5 of the Tulum-Boca Paila road where they proceeded to close a hotel and seize a second property.
The afternoon operation was carried out by the Property Crimes Prosecutor’s Office of the State Attorney General’s Office. A legal conflict between alleged owners of Khira Tulum in the Tulum Hotel Zone resulted in the closure of the establishment.
A second property located directly across the street was also seized during the operation. Police vehicles had the road blocked while they carried out the closures. Traffic was left backed up for kilometers while security elements guarded the area during the property seizures.
Staff from inside the hotel-restaurant were sent home prior to the seizure. The FGE placed large seals “FGE/QROO/CAN/FEDP/10/104/2023” across the entrances of the properties.
Elements of the Attorney General’s Office of Investigation as well as the real estate and heritage area along with National Guard, the Navy and agents of the Quintana Roo and Tulum Police, were at the scene Wednesday.
