Late night motorists report dead body in shoulder of highway

Tulum, Q.R. — Police have completed their investigation into the discovery of a dead body along the side of a Tulum highway. The body of an adult man was reported laying in the shoulder of the highway Saturday night.

Motorists traveling near the roundabout leading to the archaeological zone made the report around midnight.

Emergency responders sent to the scene arrived to find a dead man.

There were initial reports that the deceased was the victim of a hit and run, however, police have reported the death was not a pedestrian accident.

Police confirmed the deceased was a known homeless man January 31, 2026.

It has since been confirmed that the deceased was a known homeless man. He was known in the area for alcohol consumption.

According to information provided by the Public Security Directorate, the deceased died from an alcohol-related death.

Authorities sectioned off the highway late Saturday during the removal of the body. The deceased man has not been named.
