Jungle foot chase leads Cancun police to kidnapping victim

Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun Investigative Police rescued a kidnapping victim and arrested his captors. According to authorities, the incident happened on the night of February 22 when he was on this way home from work.

The unnamed victim was abducted from SM 220 and taken to a building where he was eventually located by police. During their investigation, police narrowed down his possible location to a property on the outskirts of Cancun.

Upon their arrival, his alleged captors shot at the arriving officers while attempting to make a run for it. The pair ran on foot into the jungle where police lost sight of them, however, in following where they entered, police located a building where they heard cries for help.

Inside the building, police found the man and woman along with the male they abducted. Their victim was rescued and his captors arrested.

Police rescued a male, a victim of kidnapping, and captured two of his captors in flagrante delicto, who allegedly deprived him of his liberty on the night of February 22 of this year, police said.

The victim was abducted “when he was going from work to his home in Supermanzana 220,” they added.

“Initial investigations indicate that the victim’s wife tried to contact him on several occasions, but her cell phone sent her straight to voicemail. During the early hours of February 23, she received two calls via WhatsApp from unknown numbers, which she did not answer.

“Based on the investigation for the crime of kidnapping, agents of the Investigative Police managed to locate a property near the toll road to Mérida where there were two subjects, who upon noticing their presence fled, shooting at the officers until they entered into the vegetation where they lost sight of them.

“Upon entering the area, the agents saw a concrete construction from which cries for help were coming. In a coordinated manner, they entered the place where three people were: a female, a male and the victim who had his hands tied. Upon noticing the presence of the police, he shouted that they had kidnapped him and that they wanted to kill him.

“Faced with this situation they ordered the woman, identified as Cinthia Yareli “N”, alias “La Flaca” and the subject named Rodolfo Antonio “N”, who were guarding the victim, to lie down on the floor where they were secure, and then proceed to free the kidnapped person.

“After carrying out the corresponding procedures, the detainees were placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office for their alleged involvement in events possibly constituting the crime of kidnapping. Their legal situation will be defined within the corresponding legal period.”
