Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Police say Onésima Soto Calixto has been sentenced to more than 16 years for aggravated attempted homicide. Calixto was sentenced after being found guilty of attempting to kill a man with a shotgun in February of 2021.
According to the police report, Calixto intercepted the man’s Jeep while he was driving to the Santa Cecilia residential area of Playa del Carmen. Police say Callixto stood in the middle of the road with a loaded shotgun, blocking his way.
As he approached, she fired the gun several times, hitting him in the left ear.

The shooting happened “on February 5, 2021, when the victim, aboard a Jeep, was heading towards the Santa Cecilia neighborhood, located on the Cancun-Playa del Carmen federal highway, when he was at the height of a ranch, at kilometer 307, the now sentenced came out to cross his path and intercepted him, pointing at him with a long single-barreled shotgun,” police said.
“Subsequently, the suspect fired several shots at the victim, wounding him in the left ear. The victim then called 911 for help, reporting that he had been shot while driving his truck.”
Oral trial judge issued a guilty verdict with a prison sentence of 16 years and eight months for attempted aggravated homicide.
Police did not say why the woman intercepted the vehicle and shot at the driver.
