Tulum, Q.R. — Police were at the scene of a highway shooting Tuesday morning outside the town of Tulum. A a gray Ford Figo vehicle with State of Mexico plates was shot up and abandoned near the Maya Train substation entrance.

That substation is located on a stretch of road that connects to the community of Macario Gómez. Police were notified of the shooting after 9-1-1 reports of a car left on the side of the highway with its doors open.

The vehicle was found by police abandoned and with multiple bullet holes and a flat tire. More than 12 spent shell casings were marked at the scene around the vehicle. One long-barrel firearm was found inside.

Officers from the State Attorney General’s Investigative Police (PDI) were called in. Authorities cordoned off the area while they collected evidence and removed the car. Police have not made any public comment regarding the shot-up vehicle.
