Tulum, Q.R. — An early morning fire in a handicraft store in Tulum is still under investigation. Early Sunday morning, Tulum firemen were called to a burning artisan shop on Tulum Avenue.

Area residents reported seeing flames coming from the inside of the shop around 5:00 a.m. State police officers were the first to arrive at the scene to cordon off the area and divert traffic, while firefighters worked to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring businesses.
Tulum firefighters were able to extinguish the fire before it spread. The road was closed until nearly 7:00 a.m. while firemen worked to extinguish the fire. No one was injured, although the affected artisans reported considerable material losses.
Civil Protection personnel were at the scene to investigate the cause. Authorities have not said what started the fire.
