Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Angry residents called the fire department Thursday after an intentional burn became out of control. A neighbor burning garbage ended up setting his front yard and a workshop on fire.
Thick plumes of smoke could be seen throughout the neighborhood as anxious residents waited for help. Civil Protection personnel assisted the Playa del Carmen Fire Department near the Nicte-Ha neighborhood fire yesterday afternoon.

According to preliminary information, the fire started in a trash pile and quickly reached an auto parts workshop.
Emergency services arrived at an address along Electricistas Street with Mecánicos Avenue in the Industrial neighborhood adjacent to Nicte-Ha.
Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) police established a security perimeter to facilitate the arrival of emergency vehicles and prevent neighbors entering the site.
Firefighters acted fast to control and extinguish the fire, preventing its spread to neighboring properties.
The Civil Protection Department reiterates the importance of not burning garbage.
