Intense rains said cause of accident outside Tulum

Tulum, Q.R. — Intense rains around the state Tuesday are said responsible for several accidents including one near Tulum.

Four people were left injured, two of them seriously, when two vehicles crashed on the Tulum-Playa del Carmen highway near the bridge of Xel Ha. The accident happened around 4:15 p.m. when a pickup truck was rammed by a van.

Preliminary reports say the driver of the van lost control when his vehicle began hydroplaning. The loss of control caused him to enter the oncoming lane, which is when he hit the truck.

Firemen were called to the scene to put out a fire that began inside the van due to the accident. The pickup suffered extensive damage.

Three of the four injured were taken to hospital, with two being listed in serious condition.
